It is found growing in primary and secondary monsoon or rain forest on coralline limestone and basalt of Indonesian Papua, Papua New Guinea (including New Britain, New Ireland, Bougainville and Muyua (Woodlark) Island), and Australia (eastern tropical Queensland).
